This week’s video is about the Scottish Ten team’s efforts to digitally document the Eastern Qing Tombs (清东陵) near Beijing using laser scanning technology. The purpose of the project is to digitally preserve the tombs for future generations to enjoy and provide heritage workers and researchers with the data they need to manage and study the site.
The Scottish Ten team is composed of architects, conservation officers, videographers, archaeologists, and heritage workers from Historic Scotland, the non-profit organization CyArk, and the Glasgow School of Art’s Digital Design Studio and, according to their website, their mission is to undertake “an ambitious five-year project using cutting edge technology to create exceptionally accurate digital models of Scotland’s five UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites and five international heritage sites in order to better conserve and manage them”. You can learn more about the Eastern Qing Tomb project by reading the trip journal or checking out the photo gallery.
